THE BEST BLING BY CHRIS KING

chris-king-nothreadset-32469 CHRIS KING STILL THE BEST

You know how you buy something and then think " Wow did I really just spend that much money to buy a ........"

I do it all the time, however this how you justify it, this is why I still buy CHRIS KING.

I have recently tested several cheaper bling products that are basically a Chris King copy. i am here to tell you save those hard earned dollars don't buy the cheap ones because they are just not the real deal.

In particular I have tested some headsets that looked the goods but  they have either failed or are in continual need of tinkering, in fact the ratio is 3:1

Three of the copies have failed yet my Chris King head set is still working flawlessly.   king hub gold

Now it is true you can buy copies at half the price but now do the maths... 3x $180.00 or 1X $249.00 get the picture.

If you need to replace the headset or the bottom bracket on your bike think quality and then buy some Chris King of TCF.

Prices are competitive and quality not comprimised.

Surf Coast Cycling

surfcoast_cycling_letter_head

kidsThe Surf Coast Cycling Club Has held its first Mtb event with great success.  The response from local riders and families was overwhelming. The event included a kids race before the main event. Every kid that raced was a winner, The only casualty of the kids race was event organiser and club president Shane Haase. Shane took a spill during the practice lap but all the kids managed to negoitiate around him.

sc3_web_photoThe main event was a 1 hr Mini enduro with teams of two paired up by the event organisers. Legendary Mtb rider and international track builder Glenn Jacobs got the jump on the field after hiding behind race timer Kate Done,  his lead was short lived and Karma had the final say when Glenn was forced to retire with a mechanical. There were three teams that looked like contenders for first place honurs right from the start. The eventual winners were local riders Brian Happ and Sandy Maxwell. Nine seconds further down the track were second place getters Travis Edwards and Lloyd Gray. Third place went to local Mtb guru Jeff Fox and his team of associates Postie Pete and Nichol Wylie .

The fastest lap recorded on the 1.4 km cousre was 5min 39 seconds achieved by Lorenzo Moro, Sandy Maxwell was only three seconds of the pace lwith a 5min 42 seconds. It has been noted that Lorenzo's wife was an official time keeper and that the times were calculated by Lorenzo without a calculator.

A big thanks is extended to all the particpants and club members that made the event possible.

The next event being held by the SC3 is a fun road criterium ride at the new Industrial centre on the left hand side of the Surf Coast Highway.

Single speed your bike this winter

Every now and then you’ll get somebody walking into the shop looking for a single speed bike.

Often I would look at them and think why? One gear on a bike Don’t you know that gears were invented to give us a mechanical advantage so we can climb hills with ease and then speed of down them?

If it wasn’t a BMX or a track bike I thought it was really a crazy idea, but how do you know if you never try. So I decided to convert my hard tail mountain bike into a singlespeed.

The bike wasn’t a dedicated single speed frame so I was lacking the necessary horizontal dropouts. I removed the cassette and replaced itwith the correct amount of spacers and the single 16 tooth rear cog.,removed the large front chain ring and got rid of the granny ring as well leaving just the 32 tooth middle ring on the front. A chain tensioner took place of the rear derailleur and the shifters were put back in a box.

The first thing I noticed about the bike was that it looked so simple, clean and fast. The removal of the 27 speed group set definately lightened the bike however was this weight loss enough to allow me to climb hills?

THE TEST RIDE

The first ride was hard...the hills were too steep and you could never rest it was just pedal, pedal, pedal. I was sure these single speed riders had no idea. Now the dilemma do I put the gears back on and call it failure or do I go for another ride?

THE TEST RIDE TAKE 2

I went for another ride this time it seemed to be a bit better, sure it hurt and at times my thumbs were still looking to change gears for me, yet on this ride I noticed a couple of things, carry your momentum and back yourself when you come to a hill and most times you will get over it.

It has now been 3 months that I have ridden only the single speed. I’ve even completed my first ever single speed mountain bike race, with a better time than usual and I am definately hooked.

The great thing about a single speed bike is that they demand more pedaling power due to the nature of having no gear options, so you get your fitness up quickly. They are quiet when you ride them no noisy chain slap, you get cheered as you conquer hills in a race and they take very little time to maintain.

If you want to convert your bike to single speecome in and see us at Torquay Cycling. Conversions can be done for as little as $189.00. Winter is the best time for the conversion as you're group set will be spared the wear and can be put back on when the mud clears up.
